About us

Our History

In 2012 Swale Borough Council delivered leaflets through every door on Sonora Fields inviting interested residents to a meeting to discuss the creation of a Community Centre.

The situation in 2012 was that there was an ambition to have a Centre on Sonora, however there was not enough funds, no site or building plans nor anyone to run the Centre!

Despite the bleak outlook presented to the residents at the meeting, not everyone was put off and some of those original meeting attendees remain involved today as Trustees of the Charity.

A small and committed group of volunteers started raising enough funds to appoint a design and build contract to build the Centre. In 2014 the volunteers became more formalised and established a registered charity with the Charities Commission. We were also in a position to finalise the design of the building and appoint the builder.

In 2015 the Centre opened and we had number of open days and events for our community. Since then we have gone from strength to strength and we have arranged and hosted many community events.

A summary of our Trustees can be found here.

We now have a number of regular groups who operate a variety of groups and we hope that there is something for everyone at the Centre. Click here to see what's on.
